Welcome to Christen!
"Where Everybody is Somebody"
Dear Christen Middle School staff, students and parents:
I hope you have enjoyed the first semester of school and that you are as excited and enthusiastic as I am about this school year at Christen Middle School. I am so happy to be the Principal at Christen Middle School, where we strive to be the most progressive campus in Laredo. I believe that we have a genuine, caring staff and we have some of the most wonderful students in all of Laredo Independent School District! Staff, I want to thank you for your commitment to our students and our school. Your efforts to improve our children’s lives and increase their potential for future success are fully recognized. Students, I firmly believe that with the guidance of your teachers and your parents, you will continue to work hard in order to attain high achievement and academic growth!
As we began the new school year, I reviewed the 2008-2009 school year, which was extremely demanding and yet successful for our school and our district. Student performance improved at most grade levels. Results indicate that Christen Middle School is an Academically Acceptable campus. This accomplishment was made possible through everyone’s hard work and dedication. In regards to the No Child Left Behind federal legislation - Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results for our school show that we fell short in meeting the standard in some areas. I anticipate that this school year will bring great successes for our campus in this area – WE WILL MEET AYP!!! It will require all of us to continue working together in order to achieve this goal.
As always, it is our goal to improve student achievement by providing rigorous instruction. We are constantly analyzing student data and monitoring student performance in the classroom. We are also monitoring attendance closely because you can’t learn if you are not in school. We will do everything we can to make Christen Middle School a safe and wonderful place to be!
We all need to work together as partners. In a sense we have to pledge to “get on the bus”… and race to our destination --- SUCCESS!
Sincerely,
Carlos V. Cruz Jr.
Principal, Christen Middle School
